Net Zero and Tree Planting

Trees
As part of our partnership with Ecologi, we pledge to plant 25 trees for every employer that signs up for our apprenticeship trainings either by hiring a new apprentice or upskilling their current team. In addition to this, we also pledge to plant a tree for all current employees and for every new colleague that joins us. Currently, there are over 4,000 trees planted on behalf of all employers who have worked with us at Aspire Training Team.
These trees will be planted in Madagascar, an island country in the Indian Ocean. The country is considered a biodiversity hotspot, and over 90% of its wildlife is found nowhere else on Earth. In recent years, vast areas of Madagascar’s original forest have been destroyed, displacing entire animal species and diminishing local people’s ability to farm and live on the land. Ecologi started supporting this project in 2021 and so far, the community have already funded the planting of over 48.4 million trees! Responsible for reducing 2.2 million tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere.
How many trees have we planted?
Carbon Offsetting
Alongside our tree planting project to help the environment, we are also purchasing a carbon-offsetting amount that is equal to the amount we produce as a company, this project has helped us achieve net zero as the remaining carbon we produce is being calculated and offset every month by the projects we are supporting.
We started this project in September 2022, and so far Aspire training team and Tops Day Nurseries have offset 38 tonnes of CO2eq.
What projects are we supporting?
19.04 tonnes of CO2eq has gone into avoiding methane emissions from landfill in Brazil. This project is expected to produce 102,579MWh of energy during its lifetime.
4.9 tonnes of CO2eq has gone into generating electricity from landfill gas in Brazil. This project protects a habitat that is thought to be home to up to 10% of the world’s remaining Bornean orangutan population.
2.51 tonnes of CO2eq has gone into protecting over 26,000 hectares of threatened rainforest in the Western Amazon.
3.1 tonnes of CO2eq has gone into Peatland restoration and conservation in Indonesia.
3.42 tonnes of CO2eq is supporting the wind power project in Thailand.
4.08 tonnes of CO2eq has gone into distributing cleaner cookstoves in Kenya. This project will mean more than 2,400,000 tonnes of woody biomass are saved each year.
6 tonnes of CO₂eq has gone into funding the wind power project in Mexico. This project has educated over 1,000 children about the importance and value of nature.
1.5 tonnes of CO₂eq has gone into capturing waste biogas for energy in Turkey. This project will avoid 30,153 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions each year.
2.94 tonnes of CO₂eq has gone into the protection of the matavén forest in eastern Colombia.
4.06 tonnes of CO₂eq has gone into solar PV electricity generation in Indonesia.
4 tonnes of CO2eq has gone into turning local organic waste into electricity in India.
0.45 tonnes of CO2eq has gone into generating wind power in the United States.
