Level 2 Childcare Apprenticeship

This is an opportunity to take on an apprentice or upskill an employee interested in working with young children as they work towards a recognised qualification. This programme provides the knowledge and skills required to work in a childcare setting at an assistant level.

It allows the apprentice to gain technical knowledge and real practical experience, along with functional and personal skills, required for their job and future career with children and young people.

The aim of this qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to 7 years of age with applied knowledge in the early years, 0-5 years. The qualification content meets the Department for Education’s (DfE) Level 2 full and relevant criteria for a Level 2 Early Years Practitioner in the workforce.

The apprentice will spend time within a childcare setting gaining the practical experience required to work with children and young people. They will be assessed at their setting and will also complete written tasks to demonstrate their competence. They will be supported throughout the course by their assessor through an online learning environment.

This qualification allows a learner to count towards the Level 2 ratio as a qualified Level 2 Early Years Practitioner across the Early Years Workforce.

Learners may work under supervision in a variety of roles such as:

• Nursery practitioner
• Classroom assistant
• Pre-school practitioner
