Diabetes Awareness for Schools & Carers

This Diabetes Training Course is for anyone who cares for children with diabetes. It’s ideal for those who work in schools, as well as parents, guardians, youth workers and childminders. It explains how to monitor, treat and care for children with diabetes in all aspects of their school life. It’s IIRSM approved & CPD accredited.

Diabetes is the fastest-growing health threat in the UK, since 1996 the amount of people being diagnosed with diabetes has doubled. It is, therefore, becoming essential for people that work in childcare and in schools to receive training on how to support children with diabetes and avoid the risks that come with it.

Modules

Module 1: Module 1: What is diabetes?

Module one will give an overview of the importance of diabetes awareness. It will discuss what diabetes is, the difference between type 1 and type 2 diabetes, symptoms, and how diabetes can be managed.

Module 2: Hypoglycaemia and hyperglycaemia

Module two will give an overview of what hypoglycaemia and hyperglycaemia is, the difference between the two and how to identify each. It will share a list of symptoms of hyperglycaemia and how to manage those symptoms.

Module 3: Looking after yourself

Module three will give an overview how health can be maintained by eating a balanced diet, including how to create balanced meals. It also explores statistics related to type 2 diabetes and how diet has an impact on this.

Module 4: Diabetes in children

Module four will address myths and misconceptions surrounding diabetes in children. It also covers how to support and manage a child or young adult with diabetes and what to discuss with their diabetic nurse.
