Aspire Training Team, has spent the last week promoting the importance of reducing plastic and stopping waste from going into the ocean. Oceans of Plastic is an initiative created with the aim of shining the spotlight on plastic pollution in our world’s oceans.
Every year, millions of tons of plastic enter the oceans, of which the majority spills out from rivers. A portion of this plastic travels to ocean garbage patches, where it gets caught in a vortex of circulating currents alongside plastic from other sources. If no action is taken, plastic will increasingly impact our ecosystems, health, and economies.
With the recent news about sewage being dumped into the ocean by South West Water, it has become more crucial we take action and initiatives like ‘Oceans of Plastic’. This is a great opportunity to spread awareness and do our part.
Action taken by Aspire
During Oceans of Plastic, we organised our own clean-up and made our own ‘Oceans of plastic’ pledge. To reduce plastic in our lives and inspire others to pick up plastics. On the 22nd of November staff across Aspire wore blue to show their support.
At Aspire, we believe in an environmentally sustainable and socially responsible world for all. We are passionate about reducing our environmental footprint to protect future generations. This means we avoid buying any one-use plastics and actively communicate with politicians, manufacturers, retailers, and waste-handling organisations to make our concerns heard.
