‘Pass the torch’ campaign comes to the South

National Apprenticeship Week this year will be from 14th to 18th March to celebrate apprentices with the theme ‘rising to the top’.  In the lead up to the week, an Olympic style torch will be touring the UK to symbolise the passing of knowledge from one person to another, whether that’s apprentice to apprentice, employer to apprentice or employer to employer.

The torch, which has been designed by apprentices, started its journey on 26th January at the National Apprenticeship Awards in London and will be reaching the South of England in the coming weeks before returning to London for the launch of National Apprenticeship Week.  As well as inspiring young people to find out more about apprenticeships, the torch will be visiting business events to also encourage employers to hire apprentices and pledge towards the Government’s commitment to develop 3 million apprentices by 2020.

An apprenticeship is a fantastic way for young people to begin their chosen career path by learning the job while learning and developing their skills.  Apprentices are seen to be the way forward to closing the current skills gap in the UK, particularly in sectors such as engineering and manufacturing.
