Q&A with Lola Dovey – National Apprenticeship Week 2019

As part of National Apprenticeship Week, some of our current learners took part in a Q&A to share their experiences of studying with Aspire Training Team.

Lola Dovey is currently undertaking a level 2 apprenticeships at Elves and Fairies Woodland Nursery.

Can you introduce your company, what is your role?

I am a Nursery Assistant working with 2-6 year olds in outdoor education. At Elves and Fairies Woodland Nursery, finding time to experience nature is of high priority.

Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship with Aspire Training Team?

I chose an apprenticeship because I wanted to learn something new and be able to complete the practical aspect of it too so I really understand the business.

What do you plan to do after your apprenticeship?

I hope to go on to complete my level 3 qualification at my current setting.

What are the benefits of being an apprentice?

I am able to learn all about childcare through much more than reading books and being taught at school/college. I learn through ‘doing’, which I wouldn’t have been as successful in if I wasn’t able to get involved as I wouldn’t get a full understanding.

What advice would you give others thinking about doing an apprenticeship/training with Aspire?

Doing an apprenticeship is the best thing I have ever done and has completely changed my life. I have gained lots of new skills that have set me up for a career that I want to continue with for the rest of my life so I would definitely advise anyone considering an apprenticeship to do it, as long as they have an interest in the subject.
