16th May 2016 will see the launch of a new advertising campaign from the Skills Funding Agency promoting the benefits of apprenticeships and other routes into work such as traineeships and work experience. The campaign, which will feature real apprentices talking about their story, will target 14 to 24 year olds, as well as their parents and teachers, and is being launched as part of the government’s well publicised plans to create 3 million apprenticeships by 2020.
With the development in the increased quality and variety of apprenticeships there are now more options for young people to get the career of their dreams, and with the introduction of Degree apprenticeships some can be done without the high fees associated with university. An apprenticeship gives young people the opportunity to not only work towards their qualification, but to do so while learning the trade itself with hands on experience. Apprentices also learn valuable work-readiness skills that can’t be taught in the classroom, such as communication, working as part of a team, time management and first-hand experience of the day to day running of a business.
Employers will also be encouraged to increase the number of apprenticeships they offer within their business through the campaign. A number of steering groups have been created in recent months, led by employers, with the aim to redefine the frameworks and standards for industry specific apprenticeships to ensure they are beneficial to both the learner and the employer. Hiring apprentices is an excellent way for employers to grow their workforce, plug their skills gaps and all doing so with a new generation of workers keen to learn their trade.
The campaign will drive people to the government Find an Apprenticeship website via TV, outdoor, digital and social media advertising. More information will be made available nearer the launch date for employers, schools and training providers to support the campaign.
