Apprenticeships are advertised all year, so there is no right or wrong time to apply for an apprenticeship. Is there one?
Although apprenticeships are available all year, certain apprentice employers have cycles depending to the degree of training available.
What apprenticeships are available all year?
Apprenticeships are divided into four stages, beginning with intermediate apprenticeships and progressing to degree-level apprenticeships.
Level 2 Apprenticeships do not require any official credentials to be a part of. Without prior experience, you can begin a Level 2 apprenticeship directly from school; they are fairly frequent in the UK.
The next level is an advanced or Level 3 Apprenticeship, which requires you to have at least five GCSEs, including Maths and English. You can begin at this level right from high school if you have the necessary qualification. Alternatively, you can begin at an intermediate level and subsequently “graduate” to a level 3 apprenticeship.
The two apprenticeship levels mentioned above are often published throughout the year, and apprentice companies are always hiring at these levels across a wide range of sectors and disciplines.
Why do certain apprenticeship companies only post job openings on specified dates?
When it comes to when to apply for an apprenticeship, Higher and Degree Apprenticeships are a different kettle of fish. Higher apprenticeships provide foundation degrees, while Levels 6 and 7 allow you to pursue a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
Apprentice employers collaborate with universities to supply the theory component of apprenticeship training, as one would anticipate given that these are degree-level training courses. As a result, the majority of higher or degree apprenticeships begin in September, when the academic year begins.
Degree apprenticeships should be advertised in the first quarter of the year, giving companies roughly six months to choose candidates and invite them to an assessment centre.
To ensure that you do not miss out on a degree apprenticeship, we recommend registering directly with the companies via their careers site and setting up an alert to be alerted as soon as their apprenticeships become available.
To summarize…..you may apply for apprenticeships throughout the year, however, your opportunity to apply may be limited depending on the level.
